With apron dining car / Starting in 1952, the German Federal Railroad put the express train cars designated as UIC-X cars into service. These cars had a level of comfort that was unheard of in Europe at that time. The UIC-X coaches were immediately put into high-quality express train service. Very quickly, the existing F-train network (until 1956 with the then first and second coach classes, then only the first) was converted to the UIC coaches.
