    FLEISCHMANN 734121 E-Lok Re 620 SBB Cargo

    Product description

"Completely new construction Filigree design of the pantographs Closed rail scraper enclosed Front ladder on the right with handle / Although the use of the Ae 6/6 locomotives since the 1950s - mainly on the Gotthard - could be considered a complete success, some shortcomings became apparent: These mainly concerned the lower curve speed and the lack of multiple control. Also the use of Re 4/4II in double traction did not bring the desired results. Therefore it was decided to build a six-axle locomotive again. locomotive - in contrast to the Ae 6/6, however, with three two-axle bogies. This was an important prerequisite for approval according to train series R. After intensive testing of four prototype machines, a total of 89 locomotives were built in two delivery series from 1972 onwards by the companies Schweizerische Lokomotiv- und Maschinenfabrik (SLM) and the Brown-Boveri & Cie. company (BBC). With an hourly output of 7,850 kW and a top speed of 140 km/h, the Re 6/6 is still one of the most powerful locomotives in Switzerland. The exterior of the Re 6/6 is characterised - as with the Re 4/4II and Re 4/4III - by chrome-plated locomotive numbers and letters of the ownership designation as well as the Swiss coat of arms on the front end. All Re 6/6s were decorated with names and coats of arms of places associated with the railway. Soon the Re 6/6s had taken over passenger and freight traffic on the Gotthard. Another area of use was on the Simplon line between Domodossola and Vallorbe and on the Lötschberg. Soon the Re 6/6 could be found everywhere, be it in single traction, in multiple control among themselves and especially in freight traffic mostly as so-called Re 10/10 together with a Re 4/4II or Re 4/4III. Over time, the Re 6/6s have been painted red. Other externally recognisable changes include the fitting of the UIC socket, the handholds and the shunting steps. Furthermore, the two lower round headlights gave way to rectangular headlight housings. From 2005 onwards, most locomotives were equipped with a driver's cab air conditioning system. Today all remaining machines are designated as Re 620 and painted in blue/red, are in service with SBB Cargo."
