Control trailer with function decoder for light change white/red in analogue and digital operation Illumination of the train destination display switchable in digital operation (control trailer) / The new capital city airport BER is the largest international transport hub in Berlin. With the opening on 31 October 2020, the new Airport Express (FEX) also started between Berlin Hbf and BER Airport Terminal 1-2 via Gesundbrunnen and Ostkreuz. It thus stops at the important transfer stations to enable as many travellers as possible from all directions to get to and from the new airport quickly and comfortably. The new airport station
is located directly under Terminal 1 The FEX runs twice an hour and supplements the existing RE7 and RB14 lines, which stop at the Berlin Stadtbahn stations and run once an hour. This means that there is a fast connection from Berlin Hbf or Ostkreuz to BER Terminal 1-2 four times an hour during the day.
The FEX consists of four modern double-decker coaches, one of which is a control trailer, which have been specially adapted to the needs of air travellers. Even from the outside, the Airport Express is quickly recognisable. Eye-catching large pictograms clearly show the passenger which car of the train offers which service. For example, particularly large stowage spaces for luggage have been taken into account. The FEX also offers a comfortable 1st class. It is hauled by an electric locomotive of the 147 series.
