Breakdowns made the operation of these trains increasingly unprofitable, which is why the multiple units operating under the designation BR 602 were taken out of service again by the DB in 1978 and 1979. Only railcar 602 003 has been preserved for museum purposes; today it is at the DB Museum in Nuremberg.
