The BB 22200 is a French electric locomotive for use on both the 1.5 kV electrified DC network and the 25 kV 50 Hz electrified AC network of the SNCF. The design of the locomotives with the so-called "nez cassé" (broken nose) came from Frenchman Paul Arzens, who was responsible for the design of several SNCF locomotives at the time. Between 1976 and 1986, Alstom built a total of 205 locomotives in six series. Thanks to its multi-system capabilities and design as a universal locomotive, the BB 22200 is used on almost all electrified lines for freight and passenger trains in France.
