From the mid-1950s, the Deutsche Bundesbahn procured a total of 942 locomotives of the V 60 / V 60.1 series for light and medium shunting. The difference between the series V 60 (260) and V 60.1 (261) lies in the higher friction load of the BR 261. The machines reach a maximum speed of 30 km / h in the maneuvering gear and 60 km / h in the track mode. The power is 478 kW. After the first decommissioning in the 1980s, many copies were used on railways in Germany and abroad.
