The BR 023 was a real universal genius. It carried local, express and express trains. Occasionally you could even see them in the freight train service. The epoch IV, the new federal locomotive series 023 (until 1968: class 23) was still active. On December 31, 1971, 76 machines were in the maintenance inventory and all of them were stationed in three train depots (Saarbrücken, Kaiserslautern and Crailsheim). The Modern BR 23 "survived" the Prussian P 8 - it was intended to replace it - only by one year. It produced 1314 kW (1785 hp), weighed 131.8 t and drove forward 110 km / h or tender ahead 85 km / h. After the official decommissioning in December 1975, 8 copies of posterity have been preserved in part at clubs and museums.
